Orange blossom — what it is, what it does and why Valencia smells of it
If you have walked through Valencia in March, you know. That sweet, unmistakable scent that wraps the streets when the orange trees bloom. It is the orange blossom — the white flower of the bitter orange tree — and for centuries it has been far more than botanical decoration.
Its name comes from the Arabic “az-zahr” (flower). Collected in mid-March, freshly opened or still closed. Used for infusions, perfumes, essential oils and pastry. It is the same flower that produces the orange blossom honey we sell.

Frequently asked questions
When does the orange tree bloom?
In Valencia, from mid-March to April. A brief period when the entire city smells of orange blossom.
Does orange blossom honey come from this flower?
Yes. Bees collect the nectar and produce a light, mild honey with citrus aroma. Ours comes from bees that pollinate our own orange trees.
