Valencia orange farming — how we work the land without chemicals
We get asked a lot how we control weeds without herbicides. The answer is simple: by hand. With a hoe. And a tractor with a mower once or twice a year.
It is more work. Three days of crew labour for an orchard that herbicide handles in a morning. But what remains — living soil, free of chemical residues — is exactly what we want beneath our orange trees.
Why no herbicides?
Strong herbicides also kill soil life. Soil treated systematically becomes inert substrate.
What this means for your orange
Healthy soil produces healthy fruit. Orange trees in living soil develop stronger roots and fruit with more flavour.
Not marketing. Agriculture as it was practised before someone invented the shortcut.
